SCOV Women’s Auxiliary

Our auxiliary has existed for 22 years and during that period we have raised over $115,000 on behalf of Emerge.  We have 50+ members who do the following:

  • Purchase new clothes, toys and household items at Christmas for those in crisis
  • Volunteer at the Emerge Holiday House to help mothers and children “shop” for Christmas presents and wrap them
  • Collect monthly donations of cell phones, diapers, personal hygiene items and new sheets and towels and deliver them to Emerge Administrative Offices.

We conduct 1-2 fundraising events each year and collect donated items to sell at the SCOV Courtyard Sale in March. We keep costs to a minimum by using donated services and volunteer time whenever possible, so that the maximum monies earned can go directly to the Emerge! Center Against Domestic Violence organization.

Emerge! Center Against Domestic Violence

Emerge! began in 1963 (formerly known as Brewster House) to help victims of domestic abuse throughout Tucson and the surrounding areas. They provide the following services annually:

  • Shelter to an average of 500 people in crisis
  • Transitional and permanent housing support to over 150 families
  • Case management assistance and crisis intervention counseling to over 2,000 people
  • Lay legal services to over 1000 people
  • Life skills education to over 1000
  • Safety planning support to over 3000
  • Peer support groups for over 600 people
  • Transportation to critical services to over 250 people

Their crisis hotline supports 3500 calls annually and helps over 4000 people both through their shelter and helped others who needed support beyond shelter.  Emerge! helps to educate the community by providing presentations on domestic abuse as well as counseling to child survivors on handling conflict, trauma and abuse. Emerge! depends on donors and partners to provide these services to our community.

It is the generosity and camaraderie of SCOV residents who participate with Emerge Auxiliary (members and donors) which has created such enduring and effective support for this most important service to the Tucson community.
